Here are some of the main differences: CKC & ABKC have pretty much the same rules. #1. -CKC recognizes over 444 breeds of purebred dogs.
-Other clubs recognize about 150 breeds at this time.
#2. -CKC gives FREE puppy applicatin papers, and has NO LITTER FEES. The fee to register a puppy/dog with CKC is only $10.00
-Other clubs require that you register the litter first for around $25.00 and up to $2 per puppy, then register each individual puppy for another $10.00. Some clubs are now also requiring you to DNA test the father of the litter at a cost of $40 to you.
#3. -CKC has no double transfer fee. No matter how many people handle the dog, only the last person to register the dog has to pay the $10.00 registration fee.
-Other clubs require a $10.00 fee for each person who handles the dog, plus the $10.00 registration fee.
#4. -CKC has a 5 working day turn around (once received) for all mail - however, you have to consider the Post Office. Papers are usually received within 15 days from you mailing them in.
-Other clubs have no guaranty - May be much longer in receiving your paperwork.
#5. -CKC has no time limit on registering dogs - you can register a dog at 1wk. or 15 years of age.
- It is our understanding that with other clubs the dog must be registered with-in one year or it cannot be registered (with some exceptions, they are now offering a $30 fine after 1 year and $60.00 after two years.)
#6 -CKC is the only Kennel Club that offers a Toll-Free number for ordering puppy applications.
-Other clubs do not have Toll-Free number to send out applications. You must first register your dog with them and then most of their numbers are not Toll-Free.
#7. -CKC has special kennel rates. Register 10 or more (breeding stock) dogs and the fee is just $4.00 per dog, with every future dog being registered at the $4.00 fee.
-Other clubs do not have special kennel rate. All dogs are registered at the $10.00 rate.
#8. -CKC offers special optional services: 1. Color Photo registration with photo ID cards. 2. DNA certification is listed on your certificate, photo ID card, as well as the World Wide Web Identification system. 3. Microchipping Kit - The ID# is listed on your certificate, photo ID card, as well as the WWW Identification system.
-Other clubs do not offer these options.
#9. -CKC has a section in our club for developing new breeds. We will register the offspring from any two purebreed dogs not as purebreds but as the offspring of the purebreds under our miscellaneous section. (Hybrid vigor).
-Other clubs do not offer this to their members
